STROKE
Stroke is caused by bleeding
or clotting of a blood vessel in the brain . The resulting damage to
the brain depends on the region affected. Patients may have paralysis
or weakness of an extremity; loss of sensation in the affected area;
speech problems; temporary or permanent loss of memory
Standard care would include
management of a bleeding cerebral vessel if present or i.v. medications
to treat a clotted blood vessel. Following stabilization patients receive
physical, speech and occupational therapy for prolonged periods of time.
Residual permanent brain damage may occur with some patients.
